Angling in Iceland
Iceland is an island in the North Atlantic which lies just south of the Arctic Circle. Through the centuries the inhabitants of this remote island have depended on their 'catch of the day' - fish coming from either the ocean or from rivers and lakes. Icelanders have been fishermen ever since the country was first settled and have taken great care to preserve their natural resources by monitoring their fish stocks. The economy is highly dependent on fishing, with fish and fish products accounting for about 70% of their foreign exports.

Perhaps it is this fisherman's blood that has made Icelanders so keen on angling and other forms of hunting. Iceland´s clean air and pristine nature attract many foreign visitors who consider Iceland a premier destination for outdoor sports. In addition to angling, bird and reindeer hunting have been gaining in popularity. The enjoyment of the outdoors, the chance to relax alone or with friends by one of a hundred salmon rivers, is an unforgettable experience.
