The small village of Hofsós, on the eastern shore of Skagafjordur on the north coast of Iceland, is an idyllic spot. The friendly locals have always made a living from fishing; but in recent years the village has also been home to The Icelandic Emigration Centre.

In operation since 1996, The Centre has been gaining fame and recognition, and constantly diversifying the areas in which it works. Now visitors can enjoy four permanent exhibitions in three old buildings in the village centre, called: Prairies Wide and Free, Silent Flashes, New Land New Life and The Stephansson Study.
