Whale-sightings. Whales most frequently seen on tours with Elding are the Minke whales, groups of White-beaked dolphins and Porpoises. Very often we see the popular Humpback whales and the Killer whales (Orcas) and some times Fin- Sei- and Blue whales.
Birds. On our whale watching tours we enjoy close sightings of many different sea birds. The puffins, gannets, cormorants, guillemots, razorbills, gulls, kittiwakes, terns and many more.
Sighting guarantee. We have an extremely high success rate of sightings but in the unlikely event of not seeing anything we offer another tour for free.
Evening tour for groups to Hvalfjordur (Whale-fjord). For groups we offer evening tours from Reykjavik to visit the beautiful nature of Hvalfjordur. An English-speaking guide will tell us the history of the Whale-fjord, old and new. We will be looking at the home of puffins in Geirshólmi and then we will be going ashore in Hvammsvík (a wonderful outdoor paradise). There you can go sailing on canoes, play golf or fish some trout or salmon in a pond. After enjoying the outdoor life in Hvammsvik we head back looking for whales in the midnight sun and come back to the old harbour down town Reykjavik, with the night still young.
Areas covered on whale watching tours with Elding. On tours with departure from Reykjavik South part of Faxafloi is covered, ranging from Garðskagi in the west and Hvalfjörður in the east. When departures are from Sandgerði or Grindavík the area west and south of Reykjanes peninsula is covered often with a visit to Eldey (Fire-Island).
Eldey (Fire-Island). Eldey is a 77-meter high rock SW of Reykjanes (SW-corner of Iceland). It is a colony of over 16.000 breading pairs of gannets, the biggest sea bird in the North-Atlantic. It is a unique experience to come close up to the Island placed on the top of the meting of the drifting plates Europe and America, having the birds above us seals looking at us from the water surface, whales blowing and dolphins breaching close by.
Jet-Skies! On board Elding we now have 4 Jet-Skies (2002 Polaris Virage i) which can be rented on special group tours. Perfect for fun and action seeking groups. The skies are for one to three persons and are rented out with dry-suits and life-vests. ATT. The skies are not rented out on the whale watching tours.
We offer customized tours for groups such as a tour to Eldey (Fire-island) from Grindavik or Sandgerdi, evening tours to Hvalfjörður (Whale-fjord), longer whale watching tours, bird watching, sea angling, grill parties, evening- or midnight tours. Whale watching tours with Elding can be combined other activities in Hafnarjörður, Reykjavík and Sandgerði. Why not try the Hidden Worlds Walk. in Hafnarfjördur or a visit to the Viking Village.
